About WordScout

WordScout is a free web tool for word-game players. It does two things well: it unscrambles letters into every English word they can form, and it finds 5-letter words by pattern — the three clues (known positions, must-contain letters, must-not-contain letters) that games like Wordle give you.

How it works

WordScout searches a large English word list of more than 370,000 words. The list is downloaded once, when you run your first search, and everything after that happens on your own device — searches are instant and nothing you type is sent to a server.

Honest limits

Our word list is deliberately generous: it includes uncommon, old-fashioned and technical words alongside everyday ones. That makes it great for exploring possibilities, but your game — Wordle, Scrabble, Words With Friends or a crossword — has its own official dictionary, and that dictionary is always the final judge of whether a word counts.

What it costs

Nothing. WordScout is free, with no accounts and no limits. The site is supported by advertising, which keeps the tool free for everyone.

WordScout is an independent tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Wordle, the New York Times, Hasbro or Zynga.
